Library Media Center

Welcome to the Northport Elementary Library!

Our Mission

The Northport Elementary Library Media Center is committed to providing quality print and electronic resources while fostering information literacy skills through effective research and retrieval, as well as developing a lifelong love of reading.

The Northport Elementary Library Media Center provides open access for all students. The Library Media Center uses Destiny, a Follett Software product as its automated management system. Destiny provides TitlePeekTM, which gives students a chance to preview books online and One SearchTM, which lets students get information from the school library and the Internet as a whole with a single search, and WebPath ExpressTM, which limits students' searches to approved, grade-appropriate websites. Finally, teachers are able to align lesson plans using Destiny since the Alabama State Course of Study Standards are included in the web-based program. Teachers and students have access to Destiny at home via the Internet.

I realize students have only a limited time to look for great books that will grab their imagination and rouse their love of reading, so I try to make visiting our LMC a pleasant and stress-free experience. To assist students in finding a book on their level, I have color-coded dots on the spine of Accelerated Reader test books.  Students may also access Destiny, our library catalog, from home to search for great books.

Resources

  • Destiny Library Catalog
  • Renaissance Learning
  • Alabama Virtual Library provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. Through the AVL, an equitable core of information sources is available to every student and citizen in Alabama, raising the level of excellence in schools and communities across the state.  If you enjoy the benefits that AVL brings to your school, college, library or home, please take a few minutes to thank your local legislators for providing this resource for the State of Alabama.
